How to Store and Use Olive Oil Properly

How to Store Olive Oil

To maintain the quality and freshness of your olive oil, follow these storage tips:

  1. Keep it in a cool, dark place – Store olive oil away from direct sunlight and heat sources like stoves or ovens. A pantry or cupboard is ideal.
  2. Use a dark glass or stainless steel container – Avoid clear plastic or glass bottles, as light exposure can degrade the oil.
  3. Seal it tightly – Oxygen can cause oxidation, leading to rancidity. Always close the lid tightly after use.
  4. Avoid temperature fluctuations – Keep your olive oil at a stable temperature, ideally between 13-21°C (55-70°F). Refrigeration can cause cloudiness but won’t affect quality.
  5. Use it within 6-12 months – Olive oil is best consumed fresh, so check the expiration date and use it within a year of opening.
